Pony Wheelchair. This may be the first time in my life I saw a TV character who was in a wheelchair but his wheelchair-ness wasn’t a major plot element or heavily featured in conversation. He was just a guy. [spoiler]
This is how you’re supposed to represent people of specific conditions.
If you spend an episode pandering to ‘disability acceptance’ then the message will be forgotten by the next day. Besides, ‘disability acceptance’ is just another way of saying “why aren’t you paying attention to disabled people? Next time you see a disabled person, huddle up around them and dedicate the entire day to pestering them with your presence. Disabled people requires a daily dose of constant attention!”
My mother is wheelchair-bound but I can tell you she doesn’t like it when she’s treated and handled as nothing but a wheelchair-bound person (for example: someone grabbing the handles and steering her wheelchair without warning — yes, she’s told me about that happening). First and foremost she’s a person, and no one should make a big deal out of it until she requires assistance; like any other normal person.
What we really need is awareness — not the “HEY DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO CANNOT USE THEY LEGS AND RUN THE 200 METER SPRINT, HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THOSE WHO CANNOT JUMP WHEREVER THEY GO, WHY DON’T YOU STOP AND THINK FOR A MOMENT THAT YOU HAVE IT SO EASY AND YOU SHOULD FEEL SORRY FOR THESE SAD, SAD CREATURES?" kind of awareness — just to say "hey, don’t pull the brakes on this, but these people exist. Don’t give it too much of a thought, just don’t harass them and treat them like sub-normals, alright?”
People will be a lot more comfortable if they are treated like ‘people’ and not ‘blacks’, ‘wheelchairs’, or ‘teenagers’. People need love too, and you should love them as ‘people’.
This is incredibly true
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.– Frank Herbert, Dune (via quotes-shape-us)
Today, I’m the Black Cat! (nice) Who are you?
Fear not, for the Orange Stripy Remote Control is here!!

So I came home from school to see my 7 year old sister putting skittles with my antidepressants, I went up to her and asked “Hey what you doing?” She looked at me, smiled and said “Skittles make me happy so I put them with your medicine that makes you happy so you can be extra happy.” That was the cutest thing i’ve ever heard.
how can you not reblog this
Are there even any English words that have the letter X in them?– (I expect exceedingly many people are vexed by this exact question…)
Xexbix, xypher, fox, crux, axle, xobec,
This is another info graphic I did advocating for snakes. When spring comes around snakes start to come out of hibernation and sometimes will end up in people’s backyards. Snakes around this time are killed left and right, whether it is completely harmless or venomous. I want to urge people to learn about snakes and also to leave snakes alone!
But have you ever eaten rattlesnake? Delicious! I promise only to eat the weak ones
